How Old Is the House

Conflicts in Science      by Royal T. McArdell

About the Book:  How Old Is the House challenges many popular beliefs about scientific theories and scientific issues. Arguments both for and against popular theories and issues are presented so that you can make your own decisions as to what to believe.  The Introduction is about a house that is either new or 150 years old- perhaps you can figure it out.  Read the Introduction to the book and add your comments to the web log or send questions to the author.  Items you can view are shown at the left below.

Polar Bear Population Triples

Polar bears haven’t been paying much attention to their impending demise according to a recent Canadian survey.  The warmer weather must be agreeing with them because their population has almost tripled since the 1980’s.  This survey is at odds with what global warming experts have led us to believe. A recent issue of the National Geographic Magazine indicates that polar bears could become extinct by the end of this century.

This same issue of The National Geographic Magazine also predicts potential havoc in the Florida everglades because of rapidly rising waters. Perhaps the writers of the magazine article should look at recent sea level charts for nearby locations, because sea levels at the coasts of Florida have not risen for some time.  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) sea level charts for Fort Meyers show that the sea levels peaked there in 1983 or twenty five years ago with a secondary peak in about 1996, twelve years ago. The sea levels at Key West have not risen in the past 25 years - not since the early 1980’s according to NOAA graphs. Some locations where sea levels appear to be generally rising now are at places like New Orleans where the land is slowly sliding into the Gulf of Mexico.

The Author of the book “How Old Is the House” has listed the Internet references for the NOAA sea level charts, the Canadian polar bear survey, and other scientific data at the book web site http://howoldisthehouse.com  He cautions readers to be wary of recent published information concerning the effects of global warming indicating that much of the data being released to the public as factual is highly speculative and some of it is simply incorrect.

 End.
